last time we had an issue with users voting multiple times on our polls. This year we want to work against that and get a way so they can only vote once for one poll. Verifiying their email address when joining would help enourmously. How can we do that?

Sorry to hear that! Just to be clear, participants can only vote multiple times if they open the event in a new browser or device and email verification prevents this. We have a tutorial for setting it up here. You can also lock voting after some time, as this does not let participants vote or change their answers at all.
