An event code is a unique code that allows participants to join your event during the set event dates.

Every event gets a default system-generated event code consisting of 6 characters. We recommend changing it to something truly unique, so your participants can easily join your event.

Change your event code

Customize your event code to something short, simple, and easy to remember. Here’s some inspiration for you:

  • Abbreviate your event name (#MT18)
  • Use your Twitter hashtag (#marketingtrends)
  • Select the name of your team meeting (#JulyAllHands)

The maximum length of the event code is 32 characters. It can include the following:

  • Numbers and letters
  • -” and “_”
  • Capital letters

Other symbols and spaces are not allowed and therefore your event settings won't be saved. The event code is not case sensitive but it will be displayed with capital letters if used.

To change the event code after you created an event:

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Type in your new event code under Basic information and hit Save

In case your new event code matches somebody else’s event code, you’ll get a red error message and no green “check” sign. In that case, you’ll need to change it again. Check Tip #1 below to get some suggestions.

Useful tips & Troubleshooting

  • There can't be two events with the same event code at the same time
When trying to change the event code, you can get an error Change code or adjust dates as this code is already taken. This means, that there already exists a Slido event that uses the same event code during event dates which overlap with yours. This Slido event could have been created either by you or by another Slido user. To fix it, you can either play around with the start and end dates of your event or change your event code. You can add, for example, some numbers or letters to it, or change it completely to make it more unique.

  • Testing the event code before the start date
The event code is only available for your participants to join the event during the event dates. Therefore, if you're trying to put yourself in their shoes three days or even a month in advance, you'll see the error: Sorry, there is no such event active right now and your event listed below as an "Upcoming event".

  • Crowdsourcing questions and collecting poll votes before the live event or meeting
Send a direct link to your Slido event to let your participants submit their questions or cast their vote in polls in advance.

  • You cannot reuse the same event code for 3 days
This is due to past issues with two events being able to use the same event code on consecutive days, which wasn’t ideal, so we changed it!

Hello – do the direct link to questions of an event change once I change the event name (after I set it up)? Thank you!

Hi @Motoki

Changing the event name shouldn’t affect the questions asked, this will remain linked to the event.

Hope this helps!

Is there a way to change the passcode?

Hello @VRP1202,

Yes you can change the passcode as well. You can do that in the settings/privacy/require authentication and inside you will see an option to edit the passcode.
